Sustainability and the reduction of VOC and CO2 emissions are becoming increasingly important in the energy-intensive metal industry. In particular, the production and printing of metal cans is characterized by high CO2 and VOC emissions. With the joint project between the paint manufacturer ACTEGA, the can manufacturer Brasilata and the surface treatment specialist Plasmatreat, the three partners have succeeded in developing an environmentally friendly solution to this challenge.

Join our PlasmaTalk "UV direct to metal using Openair-Plasma®" and get an insight into the patented system and the new possibilities it offers.

Gabriel Zaragüeta, Chairman of the board of Brasilata and CEO of Brasilata Labs, will start by explaining the can manufacturing process as well as the need of a protective layer in this process. Afterward, Bas Buser, Global Market Segment Manager Printing Applications at Plasmatreat, is going to give you an introduction to surface treatment with Openair-Plasma®. Learn how plasma technology creates a micro-free, clean metal surface. Finally, Antonio Galhardo, chemist at ACTEGA, presents the challenges of developing a dedicated paint suiting these special requirements and shows the advantages and disadvantages of the different painting technologies.

After attending PlasmaTalk you will know more about

  • Reasons of the need for a protective coating on metal
  • The advantages and disadvantages of conventional solvent-based coatings versus UV systems
  • The creation of a microfine, clean metal surface that enables uncomplicated wetting and adhesion of UV coatings
  • The changes in the can industry due to the use of UV curing technology in combination with plasma technology

Take the opportunity to hear first-hand from the experts about the new opportunities in the metal industry.
